Patriots vs. Broncos - Gillette Stadium - Foxboro - 10.7.12

 There were only a few things I wanted to make sure and do/see when it was decided that we would be living in the Boston area. On Sunday, I got to accomplish a big one. I did not know if we would still be in the region when the NFL season kicked off but once Laura renewed her assignment, I started to focus on seeing the Patriots play a home game in Foxboro. I had my eye on this game particularly because it would feature arguably the two greatest quarterbacks of the last 15 years, going head to head. A "Brady vs. Manning" showdown was tantalizing enough to drop a small fortune for a fun filled day of tailgating and football. The game started out as a one-sided affair that favored New England, but in a very Manning-esque performance, the Broncos came back late to make it interesting. The Patriots held on for the 31-21 victory to put a cap on an amazing experience for us!!

Oh Fenway, only you could look so good at 100!!

 Thank You Fenway!! It seems like yesterday that I was planning all the good times I would spend there...and now it's over. I will never forget walking in that very first night, singing Sweet Caroline with 37,000 people or enjoying a grilled Italian sausage from one of the many street vendors on Yawkey Way. And it wasn't just baseball games. No, two awesome concerts also highlighted my summer. The game on 9/11 against the Yankees could not have been more fitting for such an emotional day. And of course that final game of the year where we saw the All Fenway team and so many legends one by one getting a chance to be cheered by a packed stadium. Red Sox Nation has become a part of us. Sure, the Texas Rangers will always be my team, but now I will always have a special place for the Sox in my baseball heart. You welcomed us in and even when we sported our Rangers gear and cheered them on against you guys, you still made us feel welcome. I had never been to Fenway before this past summer, and just like in life, I don't know if I will ever get back, but if I don't, the summer of 2012 was a memorable one. And I thank you for letting us share in your 100th year celebration!! You're as beautiful as ever.

So Many Memories



Gonna rise up...turning mistakes into gold.

Living in our 3rd floor Salem apartment has offered me some amazing photo opportunities. I have seen amazing hues reflecting off the Atlantic Ocean as the sun sets behind where I am looking. I have seen full moons rise over the horizon as there is still sunlight and produce amazing images. Then the other morning, I had the chance to watch the sky go from the pitch black of night and evolve into an awesome blend of color, as I sat and had coffee before an early flight. This picture captured my favorite moment - that beautiful moment when night began transitioning to day. Stunning!!

Lenny Kravitz - Bank of America Pavilion - 8.25.12

I did not know what to expect last Saturday when Laura and I attended the FREE Lenny Kravitz concert at one of the best music venues I have ever visited: the Bank of America Pavilion in Boston. Last week while playing on Facebook I saw an announcement saying that the first 100 people to email a request in for tickets to the Microsoft sponsored event would be given 2 complimentary passes. Well I figured, what the heck? I'll give it a shot. A few minutes later I received a confirmation email saying I had won. Pretty cool, especially since I NEVER win anything like this!!

Since it was not a normal ticketed event, seating was first-come first-served. We arrived a little after 6 and the show was set to start at 6:30. We were able to grab seats on the left side of the stage in the first 10 rows. Off to a good start so far.

Now I do not profess to be the world's biggest LK fan. In fact I have never owned any of his music and before this night, had never seen him live. But I was game for this, especially since it was free and I was familiar with a handful of his songs. Anyone who has listened to popular music over the last 20 years or so has to know at least a few of his tunes. Seeing as it was a corporate gig to promote the opening of the Boston Microsoft store, I didn't know what to expect. He could have easily phoned it in and just picked up his paycheck. But what we got was a energetic 90-minute set which included hits such as Fly Away, American Woman, the Motown-inspired It Aint Over 'til It's Over, Believe, Where Are We Runnin'?, and the crowd-pleasing Are You Gonna Go My Way.

Things got really crazy during the closing number when Lenny decided to get in touch with his fans and do a victory lap of sorts through the crowd. His lap concluded right in front of us and gave us some up-close excitement.

Well, after all that I must say, this guy knows how to perform. I feel sort of bad I never have seen him because clearly he puts on a memorable and powerful show. I can't help but think that one walks away from his shows feeling like they got their money's worth. I feel a tad bit guilty our experience came at no costs to us because I would have shelled out some good cash to see that show. Our answer to Lenny's Are You Gonna Go My Way?...a resounding Yes!!
