Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost

When Laura and I embarked on this journey that we are on, I mentioned to her, that it would be great to get a tattoo that represented each stop along the way. My previous piece, the Knotted Gun, represents our time in NYC and this new addition represents our first stop: Salem, Massachusetts. The ship is the Friendship of Salem represented in a traditional style tattoo. The compass was added to signify the journey we are on as well as finding our direction. I decided to go with this design because of the rich maritime history associated with Salem and it's place in the economic industry in our nation's early days. Most folks think of the witch trials of 1692 when they think of Salem. I wanted to have a piece that represented the more positive side of Salem's history. I am very happy with how it came out and love the traditional style my artist used. We are headed to Los Angeles for our next stop, and I am already starting to think about my next piece.

Blizzard 2013

In the nine months that we have been up in the Massachusetts, we have seen a lot of things. But I don't think anything will compare to the snowstorm we saw on February 8-9, 2013. It turned out to be the 5th highest snowfall for Boston, ever!! I am not sure where it ranked for Salem but we received 25 inches in about a 24 hour period. In a lot of spots the snow drifts were higher than that, as you can see in the photos below. This traveling adventure just keeps getting better and better!!

Winter Wonderland

Well, we finally saw our first significant snowfall in our time up here in New England. Later this week, we are supposed to see our first single-digit temperatures. I'm starting to miss those warm Texas winters. Ha! But it is quite beautiful!!

First Snow of the Year

It's only the first week of November and last night we got blasted with a little snow storm. I might panic but this was to be explained as a nor'easter named Athena blasted the east coast and brought several inches of snow to the area. As I sit here typing, I can see most of it has melted off and we will see temps in the mid 60's on Monday. Whew!!

Gonna rise up...turning mistakes into gold.

Living in our 3rd floor Salem apartment has offered me some amazing photo opportunities. I have seen amazing hues reflecting off the Atlantic Ocean as the sun sets behind where I am looking. I have seen full moons rise over the horizon as there is still sunlight and produce amazing images. Then the other morning, I had the chance to watch the sky go from the pitch black of night and evolve into an awesome blend of color, as I sat and had coffee before an early flight. This picture captured my favorite moment - that beautiful moment when night began transitioning to day. Stunning!!

Moon Over Marblehead

Amazing shot of the full moon rising over the town of Marblehead and the Atlantic Ocean. I was able to take this from our apartment balcony in Salem.

Good Morning from Salem, MA

This morning I happened to awaken at a little after 5 AM and happened to see the sun rising up over the Salem Sound and Atlantic Ocean. Amazing sight for this Texan.
